Fluorescence Activated Cell Sorting (FACS)


A State-of-the-Art RCMI Flow Cytometry Core is located in MR613 with full time technical support, provided by the Flow Technician Mr. Jeffrey Walker. Mr. Walker is BD trained and certified in both analysis and sorting and has extensive experience in sorting both lymphocytes and larger epithelial cells, as well as with specialized applications including cell cycle analysis and calcium flux. Mr. Walker provides training for regular users wishing to perform independent analysis, and is responsible for all sorting.





    • BD FACS ARIA IIu ( Flow cytometer sorter )

      The Core Sorting Laboratory has a Becton Dickinson FACSAriaII benchtop cell sorter with digital electronics. The sorter is equipped with three lasers: A 405nm Violet Laser, 488nm blue laser and a 633nm red laser. This sorter has nine fluorescent detectors for use in complex analysis and cell sorting, various sort nozzle sizes from 75um to 130um with pre-defined sorting speeds, and four-way sorting and single cell cloning capability. It is equipped with the temperature control option for the sort sample and collection vials as well as an automated motorized plate holder to allow sorting into 96 well plates for cloning or gene expression analysis.

    • BD LSRII Analyzer ( Instrument )

      A new BD LSR II Analyzer is located in the RCMI core facility at City College of New York and is equipped with 4 lasers including a 488nm Blue, 633nm Red, 405 nm Violet and 355nm Ultra Violet. The 488 laser has detectors for forward and side scatter as well as FITC/GFP, PE, PI, PE-Texas Red, PerCP, PerCP-Cy5.5, PE-Cy5.5, DSRed, PE-Cy5, and PE-Cy7.


    • BD Biosciences FACS Diva ( Software )

      "BD FACSDiva™ software is a collection of rich tools for flow cytometer and application setup, data acquisition, and analysis that help streamline flow cytometry workflow for today's busy laboratory. BD FACSDiva software offers built-in features for consistent and maintainable daily cytometer setup that supports reproducible data acquisition and reliable results."
